Fuel Crisis

For two days this past week, my usual jogging route around Ring Road in Kathmandu looked like a warzone. Military Police in riot gear against outraged citizens who blazed tires, trees, and anything combustible to raise concerns about the current fuel crisis.

It is a complicated issue, and a somber reminder that its not just the USA who's addicted to oil.

I had a great time walking all day because there were no vehicles running throughout the whole valley. The hot afternoon sun eventually forced me to find my way home across town. I'm crossing my fingers something like this doesn't happen again, although I fear this this is just the tip of a very scary iceberg.

gas is now "down" to $3 here (the worst I've experienced yet was in Arizona, desperately gassing up at a horrid little gas-station, the only one for the next 70 miles, at $3.70 a gal!
