the desert, the mountain, and a few close friends

Moapa Peak, in the Nevada desert was one of the most fun desert climbs I've ever done!

A late Thursday night drive in the thick of headlights blazing down the I-15, we struck off towards the sinful reverie of Las Vegas. The lights, the women, the men - nothing could deter us from driving on without stopping and soon, we found ourselves in the warm, quiet of of a perfect fall evening in the desert Southwest.

The next day, we climbed Moapa Peak, a beautiful peak that dominates the whole horizon on the flanks of the I-15 heading towards Utah. The highlight of the day was the 200 feet long knife-edge summit ridge! What fun! The summit views, unbounded in each direction, was a welcome reward for all those weekday grunts that we all endure! Some claim that 4 states can be seen from the summit of Moapa peak: CA, UT, NV and AZ!

The rain poured on us relentlessly that evening. A wet night at Red Rock Canyon was pretty refreshing, surprisingly, and no warm sunshine greeted us the next morning; only clashing thunderstorms and warm rainfall.

Thanks to Doug, Jennie, Alex, and Ryan for making for such a memorable birthday climb! You guys are the best!
