Sierra Climbing - Day 2: Mt. Abbott

Day 2
Mt. Abbott (13,704')
11 mi, 3600 ft. gain

A pre-dawn start out into the Little Lakes Valley, through Ruby Lake and the Mills Lake drainage brought me face to face with the Abbott glacier. A short, fun, and steep snow climb led to some horribly loose rock. Alpine climbing inherently has its disadvantages, and loose rock is definitely the worst! Besides that, I had lots of fun with Mt. Abbots very exposed NE Ridge. The views at the top, seeing my friends names in the summit register and hiking across vast open meadows and lakes - this trip reminded me that this is why I live!

A more detailed trip report of this climb to come later.
